Jesus Christ
the first gift of Christmas
At Christmas we give gifts. But the first Christmas gift of God's Son to a sin suffering world was the greatest gift ever.
The reason Jesus' birth is worth celebrating is really because the little baby in the manger would one day grow up to fulfil his mission: to die for sinners who cannot make themselves right with God.
Christmas Gifts
At Christmas we give gifts to each other to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ because he is the most important person who ever lived.
Jesus Christ was and is God's son.
Jesus was God's gift to a sinful world. We all know the horrors, the sadness and the suffering that sin brings. But worse, sin despises God and shames his holy name.
God gave his son Jesus to save sinners from sin, and to bring them into a shameless and eternal fellowship with himself.
Jesus' birth was the beginning of God's gift to sinners.
God's son, Jesus, came to earth to die
God gave his son in death as a sacrifice to pay for sin-not his own sin because he had no sin of his own!
Jesus died in the place of sinners. He died as God's gift to pay for others' sins.
"God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned."
-John 3:16-18
Like all real gifts, we cannot earn the gift of Jesus. Nothing we do as sinners can be good enough to win God's favour. But what we can't earn we can receive as a gift.
Believe in Jesus - trust in what he did for you instead of trusting in what you have done- and you will receive God's gift of forgiveness.
"Mary will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."
-Matthew 1:21
